Certifications

Trust in our products is the foundation of our relationship with customers. An important part of building that trust is to validate the sustainable attributes of our products, which we do through third-party certifications. Following are of some of the most common certifications for many of our products.

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are a third-party verification to assess products’ full environmental footprint. EPDs are available globally for specific products from brands like Dal-Tile, Unilin, Marazzi Group and Mohawk Group. Notably, Mohawk Group is one of the only flooring manufacturers to have product specific EPDs for domestic LVT products.

Health Product Declarations (HPDs) provide the transparent disclosure of product contents and health impacts for many collections in Dal-Tile, Marazzi Group and Mohawk Group, aligning with international hazard listings.

Environmental Certification Scheme (ECS) is a program developed by the Carpet Institute of Australia to promote and recognize environmentally sustainable practices within the Australian carpet manufacturing industry. Several Godfrey Hirst Commercial carpets have received ECS certification.

Global GreenTagCertTM assesses products across various categories, including their environmental impact, resource efficiency, emissions and health attributes. It evaluates the entire life cycle of a product, from raw material extraction to manufacturing, use and disposal. Several Godfrey Hirst Commercial vinyl and hybrid flooring products have received Global GreenTag’s GreenRate, Level A certification.

The HIGG Index is a tool and initiative to assess the environmental and social impacts of products and value chains. It provides a comprehensive framework for measuring and evaluating sustainability performance across various aspects of the supply chain. Mohawk Home participates in this process to serve several retail customers.

Indoor Air Quality Certifications are a focal point of our product design. Indoor air quality certifications related to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are designed to ensure that products or materials meet specific standards for emissions of VOCs, aiming to create healthier indoor environments. Many of our products contribute to VOC certifications like Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and GREENGUARD.

The International Living Future Institute’s (ILFI) DeclareSM program focuses on material transparency. It provides a clear ingredients list for products, enabling architects and designers to make informed decisions about the ecological impact of a product’s ingredients. Products such as Mohawk EverStrand, SmartStrand, Air.O carpets, as well as commercial offerings from Mohawk Group, Dal-Tile, GH Commercial and select Marazzi tile collections, proudly display Declare labels.

ILFI’s Living Product Challenge (LPC) certification is a comprehensive assessment of a product’s entire life cycle, evaluating its environmental and social impact from raw material extraction to end-of-life considerations. It sets rigorous standards across multiple categories, including material transparency, responsible sourcing, energy and water usage, social fairness and the overall positive impact on human and ecological health. All Mohawk Group EcoFlex™ products are LPC Petal Certified, the most stringent building product standard in the world.

Cradle to Cradle® (C2C) Material Health Certification program evaluates and recognizes products that are designed and manufactured according to the principles of the circular economy, with a focus on material health, material reutilization, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship and social fairness. Unilin has received the Material Health CertificateTM for three product lines in the bronze category and one product line in the silver category.

ILFI’s Living Building Challenge Red List-free labeling denotes products that are free from specific “red list” substances known to be harmful to human health and the environment. Mohawk offers an extensive portfolio of Red List-free products, exceeding 500 collections. In addition, all Godfrey Hirst eco+ triexta carpets and Godfrey Hirst/Hycraft wool carpets received Red List-free certification. Additionally, we prioritize Red List-free installation processes.

GREENGUARD is an environmental certification developed by the UL (Underwriters Laboratories). It’s designed to help reduce indoor air pollution and improve the quality of the air that we breathe. To be certified, products must meet stringent standards for chemical emissions. These standards are some of the toughest in the world and are based on extensive scientific research. Only products that meet the strictest criteria and qualify got the GREENGUARD Gold certification and can display the logo on their packaging or website. This makes it easy for consumers to identify low-emitting products that are safe for indoor use.
